"I want the pictures to be working in both directions. I accept that they speak about me, and yet at the same time, I want and expect them to function in terms of the viewer and their experience."

About Him
As described by Charlotte Cotton, although Tillman's work is diverse in terms of subject and processes, a recurring motif still exists; Wolfgang has expanded the conventional ways of approaching the medium through the use of genre, subjects, techniques, and exhibition strategies. With various techniques, Tillmans questions what it means to create a picture and challenges the way we think and feel about photography.
Using the exhibition space as a medium in its own right and through meticulous installations - with different sized photographs often unframed or directly taped to the wall - allow for a multitude of aesthethics. Each installation arranged in a way that the space creates a dialgue with the photograph.
In a world where the art of photography is developing, where technology has changed the results of the final image and resolutions is ever increasing, how can photography still yield knowledge of the world?
Tillman's unique style and approach strive to challenge these notions.
